Glaucoma operation

If eye drops or laser treatment are not sufficient to lower intraocular pressure, a glaucoma operation may be necessary in some cases. The operation is performed under local anesthesia with the administration of sedatives. To lower intraocular pressure, a drainage is created under the conjunctiva during the so-called filtration surgery. This small conjunctival bulge under the upper eyelid is called a bleb.
