Eyelid surgery is one of the most commonly performed cosmetic procedures with excellent results. The so-called blepharoplasty includes all surgical techniques that improve the “drooping eyelids” on the upper eyelid and the “tear sacs” on the lower eyelid. In upper eyelid blepharoplasty, the excess skin and fatty tissue that has protruded from the eye socket are removed and the overstretched and worn out muscles are tightened or shortened – resulting in a cosmetically more attractive upper eyelid crease. In the lower lid blepharoplasty, the excess lid skin and the fat bulge are also removed. The small skin scar that develops on the upper eyelid and is usually only visible in the first few weeks is placed in the crease of the upper eyelid. The stitches are usually removed after 8-10 days. Direct access through the conjunctiva can be chosen for the lower eyelid operation, because the fat deposits protruding under the eyelid skin do not have to be removed through an external skin incision, but are removed directly through the conjunctiva, from the inside. The advantage: there are no seams and visible scars are avoided. If there is also excess skin, a lower eyelid blepharoplasty can also be performed from the outside via a skin incision.
