Removal of malignant tumors

In the case of malignant eyelid tumors, two operations (two-stage procedure) are usually necessary. In a first operation, the tumor is removed with a safety margin and sent for pathological examination. If the cut edges are tumor-free in the pathological preparations, the lid is reconstructed after 2-3 days. This often requires advancement flaps and reconstructions of the different upper and lower eyelid layers. All common eyelid reconstructions (Cutler-Beard plastic, Hughes plastic, Mustardé plastic, Tenzel displacement plastic), free and pedicle transplants as well as full-thickness skin replacements are carried out. These procedures are usually performed on an inpatient basis at the Herzog Carl-Theodor Eye Clinic.
